Your Battles Are Not Normal Because Your Calling Is Not Normal

If you’ve been asking yourself, “Why does it feel like everything is harder than it should be?” you’re not alone.
Maybe you’ve watched other people seem to move forward with ease while you’ve had to fight for every inch of progress. Maybe you’ve questioned whether you heard God correctly because the road has been filled with resistance, delays, pruning, or seasons that simply don’t make sense.
What if the battle isn’t proof you’re off course? What if it’s evidence of the weight of what you’ve been entrusted to carry?
One of the greatest mistakes we make is measuring our lives against people who were never assigned our assignment. God has never asked you to compare your calling to someone else’s. He has only asked you to steward what He placed in your hands.
Stop Comparing Callings.
The temptation to compare is everywhere. You see someone else’s promotion, business growth, ministry expansion, financial breakthrough, or influence, and wonder why your journey has been so much harder.
I have discovered comparison ignores one critical truth: Different assignments require different preparation.
David wasn’t prepared in the palace before facing Goliath. Moses spent decades in the wilderness before leading Israel. Joseph endured betrayal, slavery, and prison before stepping into the palace. Even Jesus spent thirty years preparing for a three-year ministry that would change eternity.
None of those seasons were wasted and neither is yours.
Greater Responsibility Requires Greater Refinement.
Scripture consistently shows us that God prepares those He entrusts with greater responsibility.
Preparation often looks nothing like promotion.
Instead, it looks like:
-
Hidden seasons.
-
Difficult obedience.
-
Delayed answers.
-
Character refinement.
-
Surrender.
-
Faithfulness when no one is watching.
The world celebrates visibility while Heaven celebrates faithfulness.
Before God expands your influence, He expands your capacity. Before He increases what is in your hands, He strengthens the hands holding it. That process can feel uncomfortable because refinement rarely does.
The Weight Isn’t Always a Warning
and many believers assume that if life feels difficult, they must have missed God. Sometimes that’s true, but many times, the opposite is true. The resistance, stretching, and refining aren’t random, they are preparation.
Just because the road is narrow doesn’t mean you’re walking the wrong one, Jesus never promised His followers an easy road. He promised purpose, His presence and that He would never leave us or forsake us.
Don’t allow the weight of your season to convince you you’re failing when it may actually be confirming you’re exactly where God is forming you.
Ask Yourself These Questions
Instead of asking, “Why is this happening to me?” consider asking:
-
What is God producing in me through this season?
-
Where is He asking me to trust Him more deeply?
-
Am I comparing my assignment to someone else’s?
-
What character is He developing before expanding my influence?
-
What responsibility might He be preparing me to carry?
-
Am I asking for promotion without embracing preparation?
-
Where do I need to surrender control so God can lead?
Sometimes one honest question before the Lord can shift your entire perspective.
Steward This Season Well
as every season carries an assignment.
The hidden seasons teach dependence. The stretching seasons build endurance. The waiting seasons strengthen trust. The refining seasons reveal what still needs to be surrendered.
Your responsibility isn’t to rush through them, it’s to steward them well. Faithfulness in the unseen creates the foundation for fruitfulness in the visible.
When your identity is rooted in Christ instead of outcomes, you stop chasing validation and start pursuing obedience and that’s where lasting impact begins.
Your Story Has Purpose
-
every battle you’ve fought is not just for you. They are becoming someone else’s roadmap.
Every obstacle you’ve overcome, every lesson you’ve learned, every moment God has been faithful is building a testimony that can strengthen another person walking through their own valley.
Don’t hide the story God is writing, steward it and share it. Someone else’s breakthrough may begin where your testimony starts.
If you’ve been wondering how to put words around your journey, your testimony, or the transformation God has brought in your life, The 3 Story Starter Kit is the perfect place to begin.

Remember this:
Your battles are not normal because your calling is not normal. Stop measuring your journey against people who weren’t assigned what you’ve been assigned. Resistance isn’t always a sign to quit.
Sometimes it’s confirmation that Heaven is preparing you to carry what only you were created to steward. So keep going. Stay faithful. Because while Heaven never promised easy, it has always promised purpose.
