Planted Like a Palm Tree: Why Your Story Matters in the Marketplace

A Faith-Driven Perspective on Stewarding Your Story

Molly Trotter - GomezThere is a reason Scripture compares the righteous to a palm tree. Psalm 92:12 says, “The righteous shall flourish like a palm tree, he shall grow like a cedar in Lebanon.”

That image has been sitting with me lately because a palm tree is beautiful when the sun is shining, but its true strength is revealed when the storm comes. When heavy winds hit, many trees cannot withstand the pressure because they are too rigid. They resist the wind until they snap. But the palm tree was created differently. It has the ability to bend, adjust, and endure pressure without easily breaking.

That feels like such a powerful picture for the faith-driven leader in the marketplace.

Many people see the visible part of your life. They see the business, the leadership, the family, the influence, the confidence, the communication, the calling, and maybe even the fruit of what God is building through you. But they do not always see the roots. They do not see the prayers you prayed when no one else knew what you were carrying. They do not see the pressure that refined your obedience, the rejection that taught you discernment, or the private seasons where you had to keep standing even when everything around you was shifting.

But God saw it all, and He did not waste it.

This is why your story matters. Your story is not just something you lived through. It is something God can use to minister, lead, teach, and serve through you. In the marketplace, many believers separate their story from their strategy. They think their story is only for a testimony service, a private journal, or a moment of encouragement with a friend. But when your story is healed and stewarded with wisdom, it becomes part of how people understand who you are, what God has trusted you with, and why your work carries weight.

Your story helps people recognize the fruit of what has been formed in you. It helps them see that you are not just selling a product, a service, a coaching program, a message, or a mission. You are stewarding something that was shaped through obedience. That matters because people are not only looking for information anymore. They are looking for evidence of transformation. They want to know that the person they are learning from has not only studied the topic, but has lived through the kind of refinement that gives their message depth.

Of course, there is wisdom in how we share. There is a difference between sharing from an open wound and sharing from a healed scar. We are not called to perform our pain for attention or turn every private battle into public content. But we are called to let God heal what happened, bring wisdom from it, and use it in a way that helps others move forward with greater clarity and courage.

That is stewardship. That is leadership. That is faith in the marketplace.

The storm did not disqualify the palm tree. In many ways, the storm reveals what the palm tree was rooted in all along. The same can be true for you. The very thing you are tempted to minimize may be the thing God wants to use to mentor someone else. The season you thought made you “too much” may be the season that gave you language, discernment, compassion, authority, and wisdom for the people you are called to serve.

Your story is meant to be mentorship to someone else.

But this is where many leaders get stuck. They know they have lived through something significant. They know God has been faithful. They know there is wisdom in their testimony. But when it comes time to communicate it clearly, especially in their content, conversations, business, brand, or offers, they freeze. They either say too much, say too little, or disconnect the story from the person they are called to help.

That disconnect matters because in the marketplace, clarity builds trust. And trust shortens the distance between stranger and client.

When your story is stewarded well, it helps someone move from curious to connected. It helps them understand why your voice matters, why your work is different, and why they can trust you to lead them. This is not about trying to be louder online or sharing more for the sake of visibility. It is about becoming clearer. It is about taking what God has formed in your roots and learning how to communicate it with wisdom, authority, and purpose.

So it may be worth asking yourself: What story have I been minimizing that God may want to use? What lesson did I learn in a storm that someone else needs right now? Where have I been hiding the very wisdom that could build trust with the people I am called to serve?

Like the palm tree, you were not formed only for sunny days. You were formed to stand, to flourish, and to carry fruit that remains. Part of that fruit is your story.

That is why I created the 3 Story Starter Kit. It is a simple first step to help you begin pulling the gold out of your lived experience and turn it into story language that builds trust, shifts belief, and creates buying readiness. The goal is not to turn your life into a marketing tactic. The goal is to steward what God has already placed in your life so the right people can recognize the wisdom, authority, and solution you carry.

Your story is not random. Your roots matter. Your storms matter. Your obedience matters. And when you learn how to steward your story well, it does not just tell people where you have been. It helps lead them toward where God is calling them next.

If you are ready to begin uncovering the stories your business, brand, or calling needs right now, start with the 3 Story Starter Kit (see link below). Your story may be the very bridge God wants to use to turn a stranger into someone ready to trust, follow, and work with you.
