‘By allowing teens to stay secluded in the world of AI, we are condemning the future of our nation to a generation who is unable to connect and engage with others’
GREENSBORO, N.C. — A recent study about AI has concerned parents and guardians wondering what’s gone wrong and how it can be fixed. Thirty-one percent of teens who use artificial intelligence (AI) said their conversations with AI companions were “as satisfying or more satisfying” than talking with real friends. Critics of the tightening embrace of AI warn that this surge of AI will likely result in a massive loss of creativity, critical thinking, and social skills.
“This reliance on AI reveals a troubling trend in modern teen culture,” said youth, culture and religion expert Dr. Alex McFarland. “American teens are suffering through an isolation epidemic, and artificial intelligence isn’t helping. God created us to connect and communicate with one another, but AI is getting in the way. There is little oversight when it comes to these new technologies; who knows what an AI might be instilling into the mind of an impressionable child? By allowing teens to stay secluded in the world of AI, we are condemning the future of our nation to a generation that is unable to connect and engage with others. We must encourage today’s youth to put down their phones and get back into the real world.”
