Exodus of pastors from their calling causing a national crisis of faith, says Dr. Alex McFarland

‘It is vital that we address the needs and struggles of our clergymen or face the utter demise of American Christianity as we know it,’ said McFarland

Dr. Alex McFarlandGREENSBORO, N.C. — As the nation suffers from a general moral and spiritual decline, more and more pastors are finding themselves burnt out, unappreciated, and ready to leave their calling behind than ever before. A Lifeway Research report noted that pastors often feel isolated in their role in the Church, with many wrestling with internal conflicts and personal strife that leads to abandoning their spiritual calling.

This loss of spiritual leadership is directly correlated to the decline of America’s spirituality, commented youth, culture and religion expert Dr. Alex McFarland. Having mentored and worked with clergy across the country for decades, McFarland has witnessed the toll on today’s pastors firsthand.

“After a recent speaking engagement, I spoke to a pastor in a major crisis,” said McFarland. “He wasn’t facing anything immoral or indecent; his crisis was a loss of confidence in himself and his role as a pastor. His solution was just to quit the ministry altogether, despite my assurance that this was happening to hundreds of other pastors. It is vital that we address the needs and struggles of our clergymen or face the utter demise of American Christianity as we know it. For my fellow pastors — ask for help and share your crises with your loved ones before it’s too late.”

Alex McFarland currently co-hosts Exploring the Word on the American Family Radio Network, airing daily on nearly 200 radio stations across the U.S. He is also the host of the “Alex McFarland Show,” which airs weekly on NRB TV and YouTube. The “Alex McFarland Show” podcast is available here.
