Psalms 130:1-4
By Kristen Stanton
Out of the depths have I cried unto You, O Lord.
Lord, hear my voice: let Your ears be attentive to the voice of my supplications.
If You, LORD, should mark iniquities, O Lord, who shall stand?
But there is forgiveness with You, that You may be feared.
Have you ever felt like you were stuck? Drowning in your circumstances? Like things would never change? The author of this Psalm says that out of the DEPTHS he cried out to God. Sometimes God brings us into a pit —into the miry clay— because He wants us to be totally dependent on Him. The hardest places we walk often bring about the greatest dependence on God and the biggest changes in our lives.
The writer cried out to God. He didn’t call all of his friends, family, and his pastor. God is solely able to answer our prayers. But we have to want God to answer our prayers in HIS way— not our own.
The author here begged God to hear his voice AND answer his prayer. Don’t just whisper a prayer to God. Recently we were on vacation and my niece wanted something… she asked and pleaded. And of course, knowing that she wanted it, I bought it for her. Do we beg God to hear our voice and hear our hearts until He answers us?
God WILL ANSWER. It doesn’t matter what you’ve done… nothing but your own choice will keep you from God. And the reality is that if God only answered the prayers of people who were perfect, He wouldn’t answer anyone because we have all sinned and there’s not one sin that’s greater than another. If God kept score like we do we would all fall. Forgiveness can be found in God and only in God because all sin is against Him. So whatever you THINK is keeping you from God is a lie from Satan meant only to distract you from the plan God has for you. Cry out to God. Beg Him. Plead with Him. He WILL answer you!
